I attended a 3-day track race called Formula Grand Sun Prix. Argo, our solar car, was able to get 4th place which was the best we've ever done. I was fortunate enough to be a part of the pit crew and was in charge of all mechanical servicing. We had a few funny but stressful events mechanically such as one of our suspension bolts shearing of during dynamic scrutineering and the rear brakes not being able to fully clamp during static scrutineering. With the help of one of our alums, I was able to quickly get the car back to scrutineering. This race taught me that not all mechanical work was "common sense" and that explaining how certain things worked cleared up many misconceptions with the rest of the pit crew. Overtorquing bolts is never a good thing, full-man strength is not always the way to go.
